5 Ways Learning Greek Makes Me A Better Guitar Teacher

5 WAYS LEARNING GREEK IS MAKING ME
A BETTER GUITAR TEACHER

I've always been interested in languages, so for the past several years I've been taking Greek. Sitting in the student's chair, it's amazing the lessons I'm (re-)learning:

  • Sympathy:  Learning is hard work!
  • Humility:  (see #1)
  • Motivation:  Learning is also joyous!
  • Persistence:  Conjugating irregular Greek verbs is like learning to play bar chords — frustrating, slow, and likely to sound bad — but if you keep working at it, there's a big pay-off.
  • Discipline:  My students have heard my advice about picking up your guitar every day, even if it's only for five minutes. Turns out this works for Greek, too — it's the busy person's secret weapon!
  • Action:  I studied Greek in my 20s and have been meaning to get back to it for — oh, let's just say, a LONG time :)

OK, I know that was 6 ways, but I'm learning a LOT...
