When you’re starting out on the guitar, you need a couple of tools in your tool-kit.

First and foremost, you’ll need a guitar! I recommend shopping around at Nashville New & Used Music on Nolensville Road or Corner Music on 12 South (I always like to support local independent retailers), but Guitar Center at Hundred Oaks will also have a good selection. 

You'll also need the following:
capo (Kyser brand)
guitar picks (start with "medium")
clip-on digital tuner
spare set of strings (start with light gauge)
guitar stand (so you can leave it out in a convenient place -- you'll play it more)
padded case (ditch the heavy hard shell case -- lighter and hands free is the way to go)

Then you’re ready to rock!
